Making Music - Things To Know!
62Anybody Can Make Music
The creation of music is not something that has to be limited to the select few who make billboard hits. No, in fact most of the best music can be found at the opposite end of the mainstream chart topping spectrum, in the underground scene of music where people are not creating music for money and the limelight. Underground is a term, or classification that I personally do not limit to any one genre. In fact I believe this term to be very applicable to all genres of music. The most noticeable difference between someone who is making music for money and a person who is not, is the amount of passion and love that goes into the creation of the sounds creating the song. A person is more likely to put in more effort, without the conventional constraints that will be placed on a person who is under a contact and a time frame.
This is why I think that the best music is made by people in their own homes, and not in a million dollar studio.
There are a few really great programs that can be acquired through the internet that I have used, and they are very easy to use with simple interfaces that do not require hours or even days to learn. But sometimes the software is not enough, the user also has to have a basic understanding of music and its composition at least. Some of the key areas of music to have a basic understanding for are:
- Rhythm - This can be defined as the arrangement of sounds and silence breaks in time. Rhythm is a very important concept to understand, after all how can you dance or even vibe to a song that has very little to no rhythm? It is very difficult. This can also be related to the beat of a song. It is marked by the regulated succession of opposing sounds to create rhythm.
- Pitch - This refers to the wave frequency of any given note being played, and ties in closely to the scales and tunings of the instruments being played. This offers new sounds, and many more new ways to play something, opening up many new doors for creation. Lower sounding notes have a lower vibration frequency, while higher notes have a higher vibration frequency, respectively. Pitch can be used to help express the human emotion more accurately when paid close attention to, and can help to re-create a particular emotion that the composer is striving for in the song overall.
- Scales - Scales are sets of designated notes, normally twelve notes, that when played together sound appealing to the ear. These are important to know for beginners because from these scales you can begin creating melodies, and it really is a great starting point for anyone who is interested in making their own music online. The most common scales you hear in music today are the pentatonic scale, the octatonic scale, the natural minor, the harmonic minor, and the seven toned major. There are many more but this is just a great starting point.

Thanks for sharing! I agree that anyone can make music. People I know who may not have rhythm may have something else to contribute.

This is a very interesting topic. I love music and I prefer the rustic (if you will) sound that comes from making the music raw and live. Keep up the great work and welcome to HubPages!
